SUNDAY FORUM

"ENGAGING THE WORLD" FORUM

"where people of faith look at and share thoughts on difficult issues of contemporary life"

On Sunday, March 30, the Forum will address the question: Is peace possible? Adrienne J. Brockway and the Rev. Ruth Garwood will present a program of images and interviews from spring 2007, discussing the options and the possibility for peaceful co-existence between the Palestinians and Israelis.

"Today, much of the news we hear from Israel and Palestine is about disputes over the ‘security wall’ and borders. How do the walls shape life for the people defined by the borders? How do the walls shape our perceptions?"

"There are walls closer to home, as well. Robert Frost’s poem, ‘Mending Wall’ raises questions about the purpose of the stone wall that separates his property from his neighbor’s:

‘...Before I built a wall I’d ask to know

What I was walling in or walling out,

And to whom I was like to give offense...’ "

Adrienne J. Brockway is a free-lance theater and multi-media artist who traveled to Palestine and Israel in the spring of 2007 with a delegation for the United Church of Christ. Ruth Garwood, also a member of the delegation, is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and the Executive Director of The UCC Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns.

Next: The April Forum, on Sunday, April 27, will feature a filmed interview with Rev. Richard Cizik, vice president for governmental affairs at the National Association of Evangelicals on the topic of "Faith and Environmentalism: A Natural Partnership."

After each Forum presentation there is time for sharing thoughts and questions. All are invited. Childcare will be provided. For further information phone Rich Dykstra at 607-326-7101 or Amie Brockway at 845-586-1689 or e-mail gouldchurch@catskill.net
